Getting Started
On this page you will find a list of resources we hope you will find useful when preparing to study at Edinburgh Law School.
Accommodation
When you are choosing accommodation there are lots of things to consider. Our new students website provides lots of useful information on arriving early, choosing your accommodation and arriving in Edinburgh.
University Accommodation
The University of Edinburgh has different types of accommodation available, from catered flats to self-catered residences. Most University accommodation is purpose built. This means that the buildings are relatively new and are designed and equipped for students.
More information can be found on the University’s accommodation site.
Private Accommodation
You may wish to rent a property from a private landlord or agency, or even invest in a property for your time at the University.
Finance and Fees
Fees and other additional programme costs must be paid in full by each postgraduate student at the beginning of each academic session in September and there are a number of ways you can pay.
You can find tuition fees for each of our taught, on-campus LLM and MSc programmes on the University’s degree finder.
Edinburgh Law School offers a range of scholarships for our on-campus LLM and MSc programmes. The University also offers many scholarships and provides information about additional sources of funding.
Registration and Matriculation
You will be contacted prior to your studies to register as a new student and confirm your intention to study for the coming academic year.
Matriculation is the process by which you officially enrol at the University. Every student needs to complete the steps, with additional steps if you are coming from outside the UK, the EU, or the EEA.
Matriculation is completed online and your School will tell you how to complete your matriculation by confirming your attendance at the beginning of the semester.
Course Selection and Timetabling
Course selection will take place in early to mid-August and you will be contacted with all relevant information. Course selection is not first come first serve, and your course choices will be confirmed during Welcome Week in September.
DPRS
The DRPS system is the golden copy of all programmes and the information relating to that programme including courses, assessment, learning outcomes, credits etc. It is a great place to make sure that you understand exactly what is required by your chosen degree programme or your chosen courses.

PATH
PATH is an online tool to help visualise how your programme may look. From May you can use the programme builder to simulate your course choices for the upcoming academic year.
Please note this is not a course selection tool. Details of course selection will be sent to you by our Postgraduate Office.

Whether you can make it to Edinburgh for the start of the semester or if you have to join us later in the semester there will be a host of activities for you to take part in.
